Mowlem vies with Midas for PFI deal

DEVON firm Midas is up against national rival Mowlem in the race for a £15 million Private Finance Initiative deal.

The contractors are with two consortia shortlisted by Cornwall County Council to bid for its Joint Safety Centre Project.

The deal will create office space, probably in Truro, for the police, fire brigade and council employees.

Midas is joined by FM specialists Sutton Harbour Holdings and project management firm Cyril Sweett, while Mow-lem is on board with the Equity Solutions consortium.

Construction is expected to last up to 18 months, with the 25-year FM contract kicking off once the building work is complete.Tenders are due back in October with a preferred bidder scheduled for January 2005.
