Mowlem wins Battersea Bridge repair

Mowlem has won a contract to fix Battersea Bridge which was damaged when a 200-tonne barge smashed into it in September.
The 115-year-old cast iron bridge has been closed off to all traffic except buses and bicycles since.

Mowlem will repair the damage with heated steel rods and plating which will be used to weave the damaged sections back together.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone and Transport for London said the bridge is likely to back in use in January.

Work is due to start next week.
