Murder law shake-up plans unveiled

The number of killers charged with manslaughter rather than murder could rocket under legal reforms being published today.
Provisional proposals are being published by the Government's law reform advisers as part of the first major rethink of murder laws for more than half a century.

It could effectively see an end to mandatory life sentences for murder in England and Wales because the definition of what constitutes a murder will change.
