Nearly 100 jobs go as Welsh Wacker Neuson factory closes

The Wacker Neuson factory in Tredegar producing dumper trucks is moving production to a new facility in Linz, Austria, resulting in around 90 job losses.

The board of parent company Wacker Construction Equipment said the closure was the result of falling demand and part of a planned package of cutting costs measures.

Earlier this year the company announced a £6 million expansion to a larger operation in Rhymney, in a move that promised to create 50 new jobs.

The market for wheel dumpers had felt the worst effects of the downturn the company said – with orders downs 48 per cent in the first nine months of this year on 2007.
