New job for ex-McAlpine chief

The former chief executive of Alfred McAlpine has taken up a chairman’s role at water pumps equipment manufacturer Pims Group.

Ian Grice will work alongside managing director Charlie White with his appointment marking a return to the spotlight after he left McAlpine in February following the takeover by Carillion for £561 million.

Mr Grice pocketed over £5 million from the sale having overseen the transformation of a business from mainstream contracting into one with a support services listing.

He joined McAlpine from John Mowlem – also eventually bought by Carillion – where he was director of the firm’s construction arm.

Based in Farnborough, Hampshire, the firm was the subject of an MBO back in March which was headed by private equity firm Inflexion.

Inflexion managing partner Simon Turner said: “We at Inflexion are keen to ensure our portfolio companies have everything they need to take them to the next level. With Ian joining Pims, one of our companies can again benefit from a senior sector-relevant chairman.”

Pims was established in 1972 and makes and installs pumps for the waste water market.
