New safety service for lift trucks

THE FREIGHT Transport Association is launching a safety audit for lift trucks.

The service follows widespread concern over the safety and maintenance of the trucks and will allow FTA members to compare performance between depots and set benchmarks against industrywide safety standards.

The FTA hopes this will allow the lift truck industry to improve both its risk management and administrative systems.

Head of vehicle inspection service John Lennox said: 'Health and safety regulations mean statutory lift truck inspections are carried out once or twice a year.

'The new service will give operators peace of mind that they are able to prove they have been taking care to ensure the safety of their vehicles.'
