New sports centre for Motherwell

The Scottish Government has given its backing to a new £29 million sports facility at the former Ravenscraig steelworks in North Lanarkshire.

Through sportscotland the government will pay £7 million towards the development, which will feature an indoor football pitch, an athletics track, a sports hall, a floodlit outdoor synthetic grass pitch and six floodlit synthetic five-a-side outdoor pitches.

The Ravenscraig facility is one of four North Lanarkshire facilities put forward for selection as 'Pre-Games Training Camps' for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
