THE NATIONAL House-Building Council (NHBC) has cut its approved contractor list from 624 firms down to just 87 as part of a new approach to carrying out home repairs.
A new computer system has removed the need for contractors to tender for individual repair jobs.
Instead, they now tender each year against a constantly updated estimating system which breaks down costs for specific tasks.
The system was trialled in the North during October and will be in full use in the South-East later this month.
Ken Minter, director of claims, said: 'This is the most comprehensive, integrated claims handling system in the new homes warranty sector.'
It previously took 45 days between receiving a claim and the investigation by NHBC staff. This will now be shortened to 18 days.
