Nine miss out as £35m Birmingham hospital down to two

Galliford Try and Skanska have been shortlisted for a new £35m Birmingham dental hospital, fending off competition from nine other contractors.

Bam Construct, Interserve, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Vinci are among the names to have tendered the contract under a two-stage tender process, now down to a straight fight between Skanska and Galliford Try.

Both contractors will embark on Stage 2 of the process to work on a collaborative basis with Birmingham and Solihull Local Improvement Finance Trust’s design and development teams, with both companies to enter a final submission in the summer.

The Birmingham Dental Hospital project team held staff, student and public consultations last month and a final planning application (of reserved matters) is expected to be submitted during May 2012.

Work includes the construction of research & development and teaching facilities, ancillary office and support facilities, access, parking and landscaping.
