No problems with Docklands Light Railway bids

LETTERS

Sir, The claim that a key project for the 2012 Olympics is under threat (''Horrendous' contract puts off DLR bidders', News, September 28) is incorrect.

The tendering process for the upgrade of the Docklands Light Railway to a three-car operation is progressing well, despite the withdrawal of one bidder.

We are continuing to engage with the other bidders. We look forward to receiving competitive bids by the due date.

Docklands Light Railway has an excellent record of letting and managing work contracts.

Our most recent extensions to Lewisham and London City Airport were privately delivered and completed on budget and ahead of schedule.

We are confident in the ability of DLR to repeat this success in the delivery of the three-car upgrade as well as further extensions to Woolwich Arsenal and Stratford International.

The continued expansion of the DLR network will help ensure the provision of a worldclass transport network for a world-class city by 2012.
