Norfolk council rejects Tesco development

North Norfolk District Council has rejected a plan to build a Tesco superstore in the seaside town of Sheringham because of environmental pressure.

Friends of the Earth said the council's decision to say no to the development in was a “victory for democracy”.

”Elected councillors in North Norfolk should be congratulated on standing up to the retail giant and acting to protect the character and vibrancy of this seaside town,” said a spokeswoman.

“The development would have wiped out local shops.”

Locals have fought a 10-year battle against the plan and are waiting to see if Tesco will appeal.
