November start on Welsh steelworks remediation

FOUR firms are lining up for a £12 million land remediation at the former Ebbw Vale steelworks in south Wales.

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has asked Norwest Holst, Nuttall, Morrison and VHE to work up bids for the deal.

Local firm Walters has been carrying out the initial work on the first quarter of the site and will finish in October. The winning contractor will then start work on the remaining 60 ha the following month.

The council wants to build a post-16 learning campus, hospital, primary school and commercial units.
