The NSCC said the Builder’s Profile service was the solution to the bureaucracy created by the multitude of paper pre-qualification questionnaires.
The service works by enabling companies to create an online profile, containing information about the firm, which can be sent to whoever requests it.
According to the NSCC, contractors and clients benefit from the Builder’s Profile service as it “delivers the answers to all common pre-qualification questions in a quick and secure way as and when required”.
It also reduces the duplication that currently exists across various pre-qualification schemes.
Pre-qualification questionnaires require suppliers to demonstrate that they have the financial and technical capacity to undertake works, as well as the appropriate management systems, health and safety procedures, environmental policies, insurance, licences and mandatory qualifications.
According to the NSCC, more than 85 per cent of the questions in pre-qualification questionnaires are not job specific, and, because they are duplicated by each contractor and client, NSCC members can find themselves filling in more than 100 of these forms each year.
NSCC chief executive Suzannah Nichol said: “After poor payment practices, the most frustrating issue for specialist contractors is completing numerous pre-qualification questionnaires, which wastes valuable resources that could be used to improve business performance.
“We have an opportunity to bring together the many pre-qualification questionnaires within the industry with the completion of one core business profile providing the most commonly requested information.”
NSCC will offer the Builder’s Profile to its members – at a discounted annual rate of £199 plus VAT – in the New Year.
