Nuttall tipped for £15m road scheme

CONTRACTS - NORTH -EAST

NUTTALL is favourite to pick up a £15 million contract to revamp part of the main road route linking Darlington and Middlesbrough.

The company is set to see off Balfour Beatty, Sir Robert McAlpine, Amec and Morgan Est to secure the Highways Agency deal.

Work will involve replacing the 20-year-old Surtees Bridge, which carries the A66 over the river Tees near Darlington. The HA wants the dual carriageway expanded from two to three lanes in order to accommodate slip roads to and from the new A66/South Stockton Link Interchange. Work will start in the next few weeks.

Work to improve another part of the A66 is moving forward with five firms submitting bids tomorrow (Friday) to revamp the Hartington Interchange in Middlesbrough. Balfour Beatty, Mowlem, Morrison, Amec and Birse are chasing the £12 million Early Contractor Involvement deal. An award is due by the middle of April.
