Olympic jobs in jeopardy over training

THE OLYMPIC building programme could turn into a disaster unless the UK addresses training needs, an industry academic warned last week.

Linda Clarke, professor of European industrial relations at the University of Westminster, said: 'The industry is in a troubled state and I think the building work for the Olympics could be a disaster.' She said closer involvement from trade unions had improved training provision elsewhere in Europe.

Dr Clarke said: 'European countries all have the social partners involved, whereas in Britain the unions have been totally sidetracked from the process of training.'
