Developer Ballymore has given £14,000 to a month-long series of construction summer schools in east London. Hayley Perry, 14, was among the first students on the Local Labour in Construction course in Poplar which offers tuition in carpentry and bricklaying by the Royal Engineers. Ballymore is backing the scheme to try to counteract a skills shortage in the area, created by the UK's booming construction market.
