Morgan Sindall’s project to build Oaklands College consists of two construction areas, both of which were on show at Open Doors Weekend.
The first sees the construction of a new Learning Resource Centre and associated main reception area, along with the refurbishment of the existing reception and integration of a platform lift to the upper levels.
In the second, Morgan Sindall is constructing a new Engineering Resource Centre and refurbishing the existing drama studios into engineering classrooms, a break-out space and café.
Visitors were shown the installation of the external façade, the concrete works to the first floor slab, roofing works, partition erections and other elements.
Site visits with the future college staff and pupils have been ongoing for some time.
Morgan Sindall project manager Dan Trindall said: “We are currently involved with the college in delivering site visits and work experience to existing students and Open Doors allowed the site to be open to a wider audience, including their parents and prospective construction professionals.”
“The feedback from the attendees on the day was highly regarded, as it gave them a good insight into what to expect if they chose a career in construction.”
Oaklands College lecturer in construction Steve Atherton said: “The students came back buzzing (and not just from the free sweets).”
