Optimism reborn


A MOOD of greater certainty about the future seems to be returning to construction after the perceptible wobble last year.

This week's round-up of the publicly listed contractors' results shows much of the anxiety about workloads was largely misplaced.

More importantly, contractors are once again optimistic, with many pointing to improving orders across the board.

The return of materials price inflation and strong salary rises in some parts of the country may be unwelcome to many running contracting companies. But it is a sure sign that spr ing will bring a flourish of activity across much of the construction industry.
