Oregon, US:

Oregon, US: A car crash victim was being loaded into an ambulance when a dumper truck skidded into the emergency vehicle, crushing and killing the woman. The other driver in the original accident was knocked unconscious by a falling telegraph pole hit by the skidding truck.

Auckland, New Zealand: Auckland's local authority successfully sued more than 700 construction workers for repeatedly singing The Banana Boat Song at night. To the annoyance of residents, the workers on site would chorus: 'Come Mr Tallyman, tally me banana, daylight come and I want to go home.' Lawyer David Simpson said: 'I'm not against workmen being happy, but happy on appropriate occasions.'

The workers were fined a total of NZ$30,000 (£10,000).
