O'Rourke lands £17m lab project

LAING O'Rourke has won a £17 million deal to build a pharmaceutical research laboratory in Surrey.

The contractor is finalising its contract with US pharmaceuticals firm Eli Lilly to build the new research facility in Windlesham, near Camberley.

Laing O'Rourke beat rival bids from Amec, Bovis Lend Lease and Skanska.

A source at Laing O'Rourke said: 'We are due to sign the contract soon and aren't quite sure why it has been slightly delayed. Maybe it is something to do with the recent troubles in the pharmaceutical industry. I'm sure there won't be a problem though, as it is a very good client.' Work at the site is due to start early next month.
