Overhead cable alert

LETTERS

Sir, I read with concern about the electrocution of a tipper truck operator (CN, February 17).

We manufacture and supply the 'WireWatcher'which is designed especially for the tipping lorry and lorry-mounted crane market, as these are most likely to be operating in areas not controlled by the usual construction site warning measures.

The device detects the proximity of high voltage cables and gives a visual warning. If the power take-off is then engaged, an audible warning will also sound.

It has also been used by the Environ-ment Agency on their excavators and hedger tractors and many councils in Ireland have a policy of fitting them on variable height equipment.
