Packages plan for tube line

THE DELAYED East London Line extension could be broken up into a series of works packages in an attempt to streamline its delivery.

The scheme has hit a series of snags but now looks set to go ahead following a decision in the summer to hand over responsibility for the project from the Strategic Rail Authority to Tran-sport for London.

TfL is due to pick up the reins for the scheme by November and project sources said it is now looking at the possibility of procuring the £500 million construction works in packages, following the model used to deliver the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
