Park plan close to £23m lottery fund

Plans for a £23 million riverside park development in eastern Belfast have moved a step closer to fruition.

The Connswater Community Greenway bid for funding under the lottery's Living Landmarks programme has made the final cut, with a decision due next month.

East Belfast Partnership, the group behind the bid, has proposed a 9km park between Castlereagh Hills and Belfast Lough.

Fewer than 25 large-scale capital projects across the UK remain in the race for a share of £140 million, with the list whittled down from 300 two years ago.
