Peak park chiefs order quarry to boost safety

MATERIALS

CONTROVERSIAL quarrier MMC Mineral Processing has been told it must improve safety fencing at its Backdale quarry site in Derbyshire.

Officials from the Peak District National Park reported the operator to the Health and Safety Executive, claiming safety fencing around the quarry near Bakewell was inadequate. The HSE has imposed improvement notices on the company.

MMC Mineral Processing and landowner Bleaklow Industries are already locked in a battle with the park authority over claims they are unlawfully extracting limestone.
