PERKINS Engines has given sole UK distributorship of its engines and parts to one company, Finning International, from December 1, in a deal estimated to be worth £20 million a year.
Finning has already taken over Perkins distribution in Chile and Canada, and the move will see it launch a new subsidiary of that business called Diperk (UK) in Peterborough.
Finning says the new venture will create over 100 jobs in sales and service functions.
It will also allow it to offer the full Perkins range alongside its Caterpillar engines network. The deal includes construction, agriculture and marine engines.
But the transfer spells the end of Perkins business for six dealers, including the Bradford-based Hindle group, which last year claimed to be the biggest dealer for Perkins in the world, with 3,500 engines.
