Pettifer in £20m tower block refurb

PETTIFER Construction has scooped its biggest ever contract ? to transform a former BT tower in Leicester.

The Cheshire-based company will start work on the £20 million project next month to turn the St George's Tower building into a prestigious mixed-use development providing retail and residential space for client Magnet Property Investments.

The building has been a landmark in the city but in recent years has become dilapidated and in need of redevelopment after the telecommunications giant moved out.

Director of Pettifer Construction Bob Macpherson said: 'We have carried out work on residential schemes in the heart of Leicester but this building really will be one of our most important yet.' The building, located in the heart of the city, looms above the railway station on the main inner ring road and provides a focal point for the new business quarter in the St George's Way area.

The development will provide 22 f loors of off ice, retail and residential space.
