PFI decision

The Government is due to give a decision within the next month on the future of a Private Finance Initiative highways maintenance contract for Birmingham City Council. The deal is one of three trial schemes currently under consideration but has been massively delayed as the Department for Transport decides whether the deals provide good value for money. If approved, industry sources claim the job could be worth up to £1 billion to the winning contractor.
