Planners recommend Sheffield tower makeover

Plans to revamp Sheffield’s tallest building are set to be given the thumbs up by the city’s council.

A £20 million scheme to makeover the University of Sheffield’s 22-storey arts tower goes before the city’s planning committee on Monday (4 February), with a recommendation for approval from the council’s planning department.

The scheme will involve refurbishing the 1960s tower to extend its life and improve its environmental performance while retaining the appearance that led to the building being Grade II* listed.

If approved work on the scheme is expected to begin in the autumn.
