Plans unveiled for £30m retail extension

Plans have been submitted to Cardiff Council for a £30 million extension to the city’s Capitol Shopping Centre.

Moorfield Group, which runs the city centre site, plans to build new homes and commercial space above the existing centre at the corner of North Edward Street and Station Terrace.

As well as 164 one-bed, two-bed and studio apartments, the development will provide in excess of 700 sq m of new retail and commercial space and boost car parking spots by more than 50 per cent to 632 spaces.

Local practice Powell Dobson is behind the plans which have already been presented to the architectural advisory body The Design Commission for Wales.

The centre currently runs across 15,356 sq m of space across two levels.
