Police reform programme defended

The Government today defended its police reform programme against the criticism that officers are still solving too few crimes.
The all-party Commons Home Affairs Select Committee said the so-called 'detection rate'' was still too low in England and Wales.

A Home Office spokesman said a 'great deal of work is under way' to help forces improve their performance in detecting offences.
