Portsmouth Wiltshier lines up second school job

BALLAST Wiltshier has chalked up a second major PFI education scheme.

The firm has been named preferred bidder for a £47 million project to design, build and manage a comprehensive school in Fratton for Portsmouth City Council.

Work is likely to start towards the end of this year, but a final date will not be fixed until the client and contractor reach financial close.

The school, to be built on the site of the former St Mary's Hospital, is scheduled for completion in summer 2000.

Ballast Wiltshier is part of the Grannag consortium, which comprises the Royal Bank of Scotland, King Sturge, King & Co Financial Services and Mott MacDonald.

The firm has already signed up for a PFI education scheme in Scotland - the £340 million Falkirk Education project.
