Potential bidders emerge for Saadiyat resort

The prequalifiers for the Saadiyat Beach Residences project in Abu Dhabi are Alec, Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, Arabtec Construction, all local, the local/Belgian Six Construct Abu Dhabi, the local/UK Dutco Balfour Beatty, and Australia's Multiplex.

The names have emerged following the reissue of the tender for the project earlier this month. Bids are due to be submitted by 26 January 2009.

The contract had originally been tendered earlier this year as a two-stage tender. At the time two local firms, Arabtec Construction and Alec, submitted first-stage bids with preliminary prices in July.

A month later, TDIC selected Arabtec to move to the second stage to negotiate the contract. However, the talks broke down without a final agreement (MEED 14:11:08).

The project involves the construction of a hotel with 380 rooms on one site, along with seven residential buildings with 250 apartments, car parks and 32 villas.

The other site will have 75 villas with a club house and sports facilities.

The total built-up area is about 200,000 square metres.
