Prison population at all-time high

The number of prisoners in England and Wales has reached an all-time high, the Home Office confirmed today.
The number of people locked up in the 139 jails hit a record 75,550 - six more than the previous record in April last year.

Juliet Lyon, the director of the Prison Reform Trust, said the figures were 'very disappointing'.
