Private railway station gets green light

Reading Borough Council has given the go ahead for the Green Park station.

The stop, which is the first privately funded railway station in southern England in 50 years, will serve the new south Reading business park and the Madejski Stadium.

Trains would run from the stop to Reading and Basingstoke every half hour.

Developers Prupim are also working on a 60-acre housing development to the west of the business park called Green Park Village.

If given the green light this would include more than 700 houses, sports facilities, shops, restaurants and a new primary school.
