Profit is the motive for PFI backers

Sir, I write to take issue with Bill Bullivant's Viewpoint piece regarding the Private Finance Initiative (Construction News, July 24).

His view, that those who oppose PFI are a 'rag tag brigade of misguided ideologists and publicity-seekers', I find quite insulting.

Could it be that he gives the game away when, and I quote: 'If PFI critics win the day then the biggest losers will be those in the industry who recognise the benefits PFI can bring.'

Does he mean benefits, or perhaps he should have used the word profits?
