Rebar data on the web

MATERIALS

REBAR certification body UK Cares will launch a central listing of reinforcing steel test data next month.

It is set to roll out a web-based encyclopedia of rebar test data for all approved suppliers following the completion of successful trials with Newport based steel mill Alphasteel and reinforcement processor BRC.

In the past such information has been available in the form of hard copy supplied to fabricators with each delivery from the mill.

The new system will help fabricators reduce paperwork by holding a copy of test information for each cast of steel despatched from the mill.

It is hoped the system will be made available to contractors following its initial launch.

Executive director Ben Bowsher said: 'The new system will help all Cares-approved fabricators. We will be considering how it may be used by other key players in the reinforced concrete supply chain.'
