Red asphalt debut for Colas

COLAS has applied it first ever layer of red Colrug, a thin, coloured asphalt overlay, at Broadbridge Heath village, near Horsham.

Colas put down 3,000 sq m of the material under a contract from West Sussex County Council. The firm also laid 7,000 sq m of the more traditional black Colrug under the same contract.

Colrug provides an open-textured, 20 mm wearing course with good skid resistance. The manufacturer claims that it is ideal for worn roads which have retained their structural strength and that it reduces tyre noise. It is applied hot using conventional paving equipment.
