Refurb planned for Liverpool library

Liverpool City Council has revealed plans to refurbish and transform the Liverpool Central Library as a PFI project.

The job is expected to come to market later this summer. The scheme has been around for some time as it previously failed to find a contractor to refurbish the 158 year old library, as well as manage the long term preservation of archives and provide IT services.

City councillors will meet in the next few weeks to agree to launch a tender notice on the European Journal for a contractor. The project is due for completion in 2012.
