Retail quintet tunes up

CONTRACTS - PETERBOROUGH

FIVE firms are shopping for a deal to build new stores for retailers B&Q and Matalan in Peterborough.

Bowmer & Kirkland, Kier, Ashford, McLaren and Jackson Construction are all working up bids for the £11 million deal, which is being handled by Land Securities.

Tenders go back on September 26, with a winner chosen later in the year. Peterborough City Council is moving its services department to another site to make way for the stores.

The site B&Q and Matalan are now on will be cleared as part of a £150 million scheme called South Bank.
