Rings cause injuries

Sir, It is with utter amazement that I noticed in last week's issue the boss of a scaffolding firm, having spent £30,000 on health and safety training, wearing a thumb ring (Scaffolding and Access, July 17).

Rings are the most dangerous things for any man who works with his hands to wear.

To wear a thumb is particularly dangerous ? ask any accident and emergency department.

In my 50 years in engineering I have seen one fatality and three serious injuries caused by the wearing of rings.
