ROK HAS hired a number two for chief executive Garvis Snook by poaching Balfour executive John Samuel.
The brand new role of operations director has been created to help Mr Snook devote more time to shaping Rok's future.
Mr Snook said: 'With the scale of the group now, I'm becoming stretched and we need to strengthen the board.' Mr Samuel will be Mr Snook's deputy for its building and maintenance businesses.
The firm is building a number of £60,000 homes across the country but missed out on the chance to build more last week under the Government's £60,000 house competition being run by English Partnerships.
But Mr Snook warned the Government not to get carried away building clusters of £60,000 homes across the country.
He said: 'Huge estates of little boxes that look the same would create social problems in the future.' Mr Snook was speaking as pre-tax profits for the six months to June went up £300,000 to £5.7 million.
