Rover gets £6.5 m Government lifeline as rescue bid continues

Talks to save stricken MG Rover will continue today as a £6.5 million government loan ensured the company's survival for another seven days.
The Government's action temporarily staves off potential mass redundancies by ensuring wages and expenses are paid as talks go on with the Chinese firm which may be Rover's saviour.

Workers at the ailing Longbridge plant, in Birmingham, will hold a mass meeting at the factory today to hear about frantic efforts to save the factory, while the Government task force set up to deal with the crisis holds its first meeting.
