Royal Bank of Scotland HQ, Gogarburn

PROJECT OF THE DECADE

While the eyes of the world were focused on the unfolding debacle down the road at the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, a similarly gargantuan scheme was progressing almost unnoticed. Mace's £350 million project to build the new Royal Bank of Scotland Headquarters at Gogarburn saw tremendous productivity levels for its 7,000 workers and an award-winning site safety record.

The building also achieved a BREEAM 'excellent' rating for energy efficiency, showing the way forward for future major office schemes. Opening six months ahead of schedule, this was possibly the greatest construction project you never heard of.
