Safety code will launch at summit

THE STRATEGIC Forum is planning to unveil a new code on safety at this month's industry safety summit.

Forum chair Peter Rogers, who is also chairing the summit on February 24, has been in discussions with the industry over the joint umbrella code, which will be based on 'Respect for People' principles.

Although the details of the code are yet to emerge, it is understood that the industry is finalising several action plans to support the code. These will also be unveiled at the summit.

Industry sources said this month's summit will be far smaller than the two in 2001.The Health and Safety Executive is understood to have sent out around 150 invitations.

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is almost certain not to attend but construction minister Nigel Griffiths and health and safety minister Jane Kennedy have been confirmed to represent the Government.
