Sales 'hit 10-year low'

Retail sales fell to their lowest level for 10 years last month, a survey out today showed.
Like-for-like sales in April slipped by 4.7 per cent against the same month a year earlier, according to the monthly BRC-KMPG Retail Sales Monitor survey from the British Retail Consortium.

The figure was the lowest since the BRC began doing the survey in 1995 and worse than the previous lowest figure it recorded of -4.6 per cent in April 1999.
