Salford Media City wins planning permission

The BBC's move to Manchester's Salford Quays has taken a giant leap forward after the first phase of the proposed Media City development won planning permission.

Salford City Council has approved plans for a 'showpiece' 24,000m2 studio block, 3,200m2 of offices, a 11,000m2 hotel, 168 homes, and as a 2,116-space multi-storey car park.

The scheme has been designed by Fairhursts for landowner Peel Holdings and will sit within the wider masterplan for the former docklands site, which will eventually become home to nearly 15,000 workers.
