Scaffold fine

Wakefield firm Deborah Services was fined £110,000 and Glasgow-based Beechwood Development Company fined £22,000 at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week after a worker was seriously injured following a scaffold collapse in May 2005. Subcontractor Paul Laidlaw was working from a 12 m scaffold which collapsed, causing him to fall 5 m onto boards and other components from the tower. He suffered a severe head laceration, a broken wrist and a broken rib.
