Scaffolding gets a quick fix

MATERIALS Cutting Edge

SCAFFOLDING designers could slash the number of hours spent preparing the quantities for their designs, thanks to a computer programme developed by Cadquote.

The Glasgow-based software specialist has developed a system that will eradicate the painful process of individually counting every single component on a design.

According to managing director Barry Barr it will dramatically cut the amount of time and effort to prepare the quantities prior to order and erection.

He said: 'Because it cuts out the manual counting of each component it gives the designer more time to work on other projects. The system will take less than 30 seconds to count each component on an Autocad drawing and file the price, number and weight information on a spreadsheet.'

Scaffquote has been developed over the past two years and although initially dreamt up as an aid for the scaffolding sector, Mr Barr is convinced it can be applied to any Autocad drawing.

He said: 'It can be adapted for any firm using Autocad drawings. We see lots of opportunities in construction.'

The price of the software depends on the amount of fine tuning required for installation but Mr Barr is said it will pay for itself within 12 months. 'We will install the system and train staff to use it.'
