School bids weld Barr and Dawn

AYRSHIRE-based contracting rivals Barr and Dawn are joining forces to bid for traditionally-let education work.

Tony Rush, executive chair-man of Barr's operating business, said: 'We have formed a joint venture to provide services to local schools.

'We are also talking to local suppliers such as Newton Steel so we can put a whole supply package together.'

Barr, which has returned to the black after three years of losses, according to accounts about to be submitted to Companies House, has opened a new office in Leeds, where the firm has £60 millionworth of work.
