Second high speed line station opens

Eurostar's new station, Ebbsfleet International in north Kent, is to be officially opened by double Olympic Gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.

The station is on the UK's first high-speed line, High Speed 1, which runs under the English Channel to France.

High speed passenger rail services from Ebbsfleet International station to the Continent began in November when St Pancras International opened in London.

The four-platform station is located off junction two of the M25, near the massive Bluewater shopping centre.

Journey times from Ebbsfleet International take 1h 10m to Lille, 1h 41m to Brussels and 2h 05m to Paris - all 10 minutes less than from St Pancras International in London.

It is hoped that Ebbsfleet International will aid the planned regeneration of Ebbsfleet Valley and provide an international gateway to the 2012 Olympics.
